Description |
This song proclaims the truth taught in 1 Peter 3:18,
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"
The first verse speaks of the miraculous deliverance of the Israelites from their bitter bondage in Egypt. Their harsh captivity to that ruthless regime ended only after God's intervention with plagues and punishments on the land of Egypt. The final culmination of God's judgement was seen when an innocent lamb was slain for the transgressions of the nation and his blood was put over the entrance to each home as protection from the destroyer.
This true story was meant to illustrate how Christ would be the innocent Lamb of God. This is the theme of the second verse! His blood would be shed for the transgressions of the nations. When his blood is applied to our account by faith, he gives us protection from the effects of sin!
The Just for the unjust, the innocent for the guilty. The righteous Son for the sinful one, The pure for the filthy! Atoning the offender for eternity. The Just for the unjust, Jesus Christ for me! |
